| Objective Effect of smegliptide on bone metabolism and bone mineral density in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods A total of 85 T2DM patients who were hospitalized in our department from 2023 to 2024 were selected, and they were not treated with hypoglycemic drugs before entering the group. The changes of bone metabolism and bone mineral density were observed before and after 12 months of treatment with smegliptide. Results Fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, insulin resistance, waist circumference, BMI, WHR, and Whtr decreased after 12 months of the treatment (P<0.05). TC, TG, and LDL-C decreased significantly, but HDL-C increased (P<0.05). Bone mineral density increased slightly, T value and Z value improved obviously, parathyroid hormone decreased, 25-hydroxyvitamin D increased, bone resorption index β-CTX decreased obviously, and bone formation indexes such as osteocalcin and TP1NP increased (P<0.05). Conclusion Smegliptide has multiple benefits, such as lowering blood sugar, regulating fat, relieving overweight or obesity, improving bone metabolism, promoting osteogenesis, inhibiting osteoclast, and improving bone health. |
