| Osteoporosis (OP) is a metabolic degenerative bone disease characterized by reduced bone mass, impaired bone microstructure, and weakened bone strength. In China, the prevention and treatment of OP face problems such as high prevalence rate, late awareness rate, and low diagnosis and treatment rate. Although traditional drugs can alleviate symptoms, they usually cause side effects on the bones and the gastrointestinal tract. Apoptosis is an important type of programmed cell death in organisms. In the body, apoptosis plays an important role in maintaining balance and participates in many physiological and pathological processes. Currently, many drugs are based on the mechanism of promoting or inhibiting apoptosis. The monomers of traditional Chinese medicine have multi-targeting, high safety, effectiveness, and low cost, and are highly sought after by elderly patients. In recent years, they have been widely used in the treatment and prevention of OP and have gradually gained recognition both domestically and internationally. This article summarizes the research progress of traditional Chinese medicine monomers based on apoptosis for the prevention and treatment of OP in recent years, providing theoretical and experimental basis for the development of new drugs and the improvement of OP management. |
